What’s Coming in When? A Tooth Eruption Guide.

POSTED BY Parkview Dental ON September 14, 2018

While the arrival of your little one’s teeth might seem like a scattered and chaotic experience with very little in the way of predictable outcomes, there is a method to the madness! So, let’s find out which teeth come in when with this handy-dandy tooth eruption guide — courtesy of the American Dental Association.

With both the primary and permanent teeth eruption guides below, our journey through the mouth begins with our “front teeth” (the central incisors), and move backward from there. By the way, “eruption” is just a fancy way of talking about when your children’s teeth come in.

Upper Primary Teeth

Central incisor: Erupts between 8-12 months, and is shed between age 6 and 7.
Lateral incisor: Erupts between 9-13 months, and is shed between age 7 and 8.
Canine (cuspid): Erupts between 16-22 months, and is shed between age 10 and12.
First molar: Erupts between 13-19 months, and is shed between age 9 and 11.
Second molar: Erupts between 25-33 months, and is shed between age 10 and 12.

Lower Primary Teeth

Central incisor: Erupts between 6-10 months, and is shed between age 6 and 7.
Lateral incisor: Erupts between 10-16 months, and is shed between age 7 and 8.
Canine (cuspid): Erupts between 17-23 months, and is shed between age 9 and 12.
First molar: Erupts between 14-18 months, and is shed between age 9 and 11.
Second molar: Erupts between 23-31 months, and is shed between age 10 and 12.

Upper Permanent Teeth

Central incisor: Erupts between age 7 and 8.
Lateral incisor: Erupts between age 8 and 9.
Canine (cuspid): Erupts between age 11 and 12.
First premolar (first bicuspid): Erupts between age 10 and 11.
Second premolar (second bicuspid): Erupts between age 6 and 7.
Second molar: Erupts between age 12 and 13.
Third molar (wisdom tooth): Erupts between age 17 and 21.

Lower Permanent Teeth

Central incisor: Erupts between age 6 and 7.
Lateral incisor: Erupts between age 7 and 8.
Canine (cuspid): Erupts between age 9 and 10.
First premolar (first bicuspid): Erupts between age 10 and 12.
Second premolar (second bicuspid): Erupts between age 11 and 12.
First molar: Erupts between age 6 and 7.
Second molar: Erupts between age 11 and 13.

Thank you for making me feel welcomed and cared for!  All staff was personable, kind and went out of their way to introduce themselves to me.  Overall, I am impressed by the technology used during my exam and cleaning that showed me up close what is going on with my teeth.
