Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry is our goal for every patient.

It involves the daily care, good nutrition, and periodic checkups and cleanings that maintain good dental health.  Preventive dentistry may not be where we start with every patient, but it’s where we like to finish.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer screening is completed at each dental checkup.  A thorough exam of the tissues in the mouth is done. Oral cancer is more successfully treated in its earlier stages.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a tool that we use to examine the mouth in as detailed a way as possible. The instrument, which may look like an oversized pen, has a camera that takes high-resolution footage or images of a patient’s mouth and shows the visuals real-time on a monitor – they’re like high-tech versions of the hand mirror we use in our office.

Diagnodent

This is a tool that scans over the surfaces of your teeth in a few minutes. This tool can reveal small cavities or fractures in a tooth that may not be visible to the naked eye, making it easier to detect and fix problems before they become more complex and costly to repair.

Sealants

Dental sealants are hardened plastic shields, placed on the chewing, or occlusal, surface of molars and premolars, which seals the surface of the tooth. Sealants work by keeping food and other bacteria-causing material from getting trapped in the tooth and causing decay — which can ultimately lead to cavities. Sealants can help prevent food from getting into the places where a child might have difficulty brushing. Without a sealant, it is more likely that your child could develop a cavity in an otherwise unprotected tooth. Cavities require fillings, which run the risk of failure over time.

Young visitors are important to our practice.

We welcome first appointments as early as age two. Because early dental visits help determine life-long health attitudes, we go slowly and take all the time your child needs to feel comfortable, to encourage curiosity, to make a friend. With good health habits instilled at a young age, your child’s dental future can be bright, indeed. We are proud to introduce a new children’s reward program at Parkview Dental. Our younger patients up to the age of 13 years old are eligible for this program.  A patient who receives a good oral hygiene report with no cavities from the dentist during their routine checkup visit will be eligible to put their name into a monthly drawing for a fun prize. Your child’s oral health is important to us and Parkview Dental wants to reward our younger patients who strive to keep their teeth and gums healthy and cavity free.

Protective Mouthguards

Brux/grinding guards

Our bruxism guards and TMJ splints are custom made to protect tooth structure and jaw joints from the chronic effects of grinding your teeth.

Migraine Headache Treatment

NTI device is the first dental device to be cleared by the FDA for the prevention of medically diagnosed migraine pain.

Mouth Guards

Athletic mouth guards we offer custom made athletic mouth guards that provide much better tooth protection than over the counter athletic guards molded with boiling water.

Periodontal Disease and Gum Assessment

Periodontal disease is an infection and inflammation that affects the tissues and bone that support your teeth.  It’s also called gum disease.  We perform a thorough evaluation of the gum tissue to determine if a patient may have periodontal disease.  Treating gum disease in the early stages is very important and can help prevent tooth loss.

Root Planing and Scaling

This treatment is needed to help heal periodontal disease. This “deep cleaning” procedure removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line to the bottom of each periodontal pocket. The tooth’s root surfaces are cleaned and smoothed.

Arestin

This is a localized antibiotic that is easily placed in conjunction with root planning and scaling to help treat periodontal disease and promote healing.
