Thumbs Down on Thumb Sucking
Children who still suck their fingers or thumbs as their permanent teeth start erupting — usually around the age of 5 or 6 — could be causing permanent changes that affect tooth structure and jaw development. Specifically, thumb sucking can cause a changes during growth. These changes can lead to a number of issues, including misaligned teeth, difficulty chewing, and speech problem. As difficult as we know this can be — help wean your child off his/her thumb sooner than later.
